Jem and I travelled to Haarlem in the summer of 2012 to spend time with my cousins and their kids. The sun was out and so we took the chance to join all the locals at a town beach, toes in the sand, beers in hand and pizza in our bellies. Unbelievably I’d never met these cousins and even though we were perfect strangers to beforehand we found we had so much in common from the minute we met, right down to the way we all look!

My father was born and raised here and I can see why he loved it so much. It’s such a peaceful, quaint part of The Netherlands, people get around by walking or cycling and from what I could tell everyone in the village knows your name.
