For a day that began at 3:30 am, with two false starts, my first foray into hot-air-ballooning turned out pretty well. Dependent entirely on the weather (hence the false starts), ballooning is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.

It’s not so much flying as it is floating.

For one, it’s almost silent. you’re above the noise of whatever is below you,a nd the balloon itself makes noise only when the burners go. There’s a real sense of peace about the world when floating up and over the stress, business and worries of the world below. I’ve since ballooned in several places (including on safari in Africa – but that we’ll save for a later story).

In short, if you have the chance – the money is well worth it (yes, it can be a bit pricey) but it’s something everyone should do once. At least.
